Universal beams, commonly referred to as “I” beams, are named after the ‘I’ shaped appearance of their cross section. The vertical middle section of the beam is known as the 'web' and the horizontal components are called 'flanges'.
Universal beams are designed to economically resist loads exerting tension. Steel beams will not bend or warp and will not rot in comparison to wooden beams. This allows a structure to be created with less supports required, resulting in more open spaces within a building plan.
Universal Beams at Hakimi Africa Ltd are available in various sizes and weights per metre, cut to any specified length and stocked both in its original-colour or painted.
